Part I · Straighten Your Crown
CHAPTER 03Your Worth Was Never Up for Negotiation
Self-worth · Confidence · Rejection · Criticism · Failure
People will misprice you. A job will pass you over, a man will not choose you, a family member will talk about you like you are a problem to be managed. None of that is an appraisal. It is an opinion, formed with partial information, by someone with their own weather going on.
Confidence is not a feeling you wait for. It is the residue of keeping promises to yourself. Do what you said you would do a few dozen times and confidence shows up on its own, quietly, like a bill finally paid.
Keep these
- “Rejection is information about fit, not a verdict on value.”
- “Criticism worth keeping comes with a door still open.”
- “You can fail at something without becoming a failure of a person.”
Practical steps
- Separate feedback into three piles: true, partly true, and not mine.
- Keep one promise to yourself daily for two weeks, no matter how small.
- Write down the last thing you survived and what it proved.
- Ask for one thing you would normally talk yourself out of asking for.
