Part III · Love, Relationships & People
CHAPTER 14The Woman You Become After Love
Lessons · Forgiveness · Closure · Moving forward
Every relationship leaves you with two things: a lesson and a habit. The lesson is worth keeping. The habit — the flinch, the over-explaining, the checking — usually is not.
Forgiveness is not a return ticket. You can release someone from the debt and still keep the door locked. That is not bitterness. That is bookkeeping.
Keep these
- “You can forgive completely and never go back.”
- “Do not let one person's failure rewrite your whole opinion of love.”
- “The goal is not to become hard. The goal is to become discerning.”
Practical steps
- Write down the lesson and the habit. Keep one, retire the other.
- Notice where you're punishing new people for old crimes.
- Let yourself enjoy something you avoided during that relationship.
- Decide what you would need to see before you trust again.
