Part IV · The Everyday Crown

CHAPTER 15Balance Is Not Doing Everything

Prioritization · Must / should / could / not mine

Balance got sold to women as doing all of it beautifully at the same time. That is not balance. That is a workload with good lighting. Real balance is deciding what actually gets your hours.

Run everything through four buckets: must do, should do, could do, and not mine to carry. The last bucket is the one that changes your life. Some things on your list were handed to you by someone who never asked.

Keep these

  • “A full calendar is not the same as a full life.”
  • “Some tasks are not late. They are simply not yours.”
  • “Choose three things a day. Finish them. Let the rest wait.”

Practical steps

  • Sort tomorrow's list into the four buckets before you start.
  • Cap your must-do list at three items.
  • Give one recurring task back to its rightful owner.
  • Put 'nothing' on the calendar once a week and honor it.
