Part II · Life Will Life
CHAPTER 10When You Are Tired of Being Strong
Vulnerability · Support · Emotional honesty · Rebuilding
Strong became your reputation, and reputations are hard to put down. People stopped checking on you because you always said you were fine. Somewhere in there, fine became a costume you wear even at home.
You are allowed to say it out loud: I am tired. Not quitting. Not broken. Tired. Tired is a condition with a remedy, and the remedy usually involves other people knowing the truth.
Keep these
- “Strong is not a personality requirement. It is a tool you're allowed to set down.”
- “The people who only know your capable side do not know you yet.”
- “Saying "I'm struggling" out loud is not a collapse. It is a report.”
Practical steps
- Tell one person the honest answer to "how are you?" this week.
- Take a day off before your body takes it for you.
- Name the difference between tired, lonely, and overwhelmed. They need different fixes.
- If it is heavier than tired, talk with a qualified professional. That is a smart move, not a last resort.
