Part II · Life Will Life
CHAPTER 08The Single-Mother Strength Nobody Sees
Work · Children · Money · Support systems · Your own dreams
There is a kind of arithmetic you do that nobody claps for: the gas, the sitter, the shift you cannot miss, the school program you refuse to miss. You are running a household and a business at the same time, and the business is survival.
Let me say the part that gets skipped. Asking for help is not a confession of failure. It is a logistics decision made by a competent woman. Build the system before the emergency, not during it.
Keep these
- “You are not doing it wrong because it is hard. It is hard.”
- “Your children need you rested more than they need you perfect.”
- “A dream deferred is not a dream deleted.”
Practical steps
- Name three people who could realistically be called at 7 a.m. Ask them now, before you need them.
- Trade a favor with another parent this month instead of paying for it.
- Put one hour a week toward the thing that is only yours.
- Automate one bill so it stops taking up mental space.
